Self love is not something that most of us have a natural tendency towards. We are misinformed that loving our selves should be easy and feel good. For many of us, the exact opposite is true.
In reality it is an emotion, mental, and spiritual skill that we have to learn just like any other skill- one small change at a time.
Self love is the tool that allows us to look at the fear based aspects of ourselves and embrace them as part of who we are. We find peace, not in the destruction of those shadow aspects, but in the complete acknowledging and acceptance of them.

Common ways that lack of self love manifest are: emotional eating, eating disorders, addiction, finding purpose, difficulty with exercise/ diet/ nutrition, self harming behaviors, and insecurity, beliefs in lack.
When you start working on how you love yourself, the other aspects shift naturally. That is because all of the areas in your life that you are struggling with are based on old, subconscious programs that are coming from fear of who you are instead of loving who you are. Shifting just one issue will open up the doorway for healing in all areas in your life.
